FARMERS TO BENEFIT FROM ONE MILLION SACKS OF FERTILIZER


The Principal Secretary of Agriculture, Kiprono Ronoh, has started the distribution of one million sacks of fertilizer to tea leaf farmers in the Port of Mombasa.PS Ronoh has said that this is part of the government's promise to improve agriculture in the country.  These sacks will be distributed throughout the country in the next three weeks, and farmers will get them at a cheap price of 1,500 shillings per sack.

In addition, he said that there is another wagon of fertilizer being prepared, where one million sacks will be ready in two weeks and the farmers will be able to get the fertilizers from tea shops at a price of 2500 shillings. He said that the government continues to be responsible in strengthening agriculture in the country, and farmers  tea farmers will benefit like other farmers, as this sector is important in developing the country's economy.

Ronoh has explained that in the past year, the tea industry contributed 4 percent to the national income, which is equal to 138,000,000 to 200,000,000 and the amount of money increased, expected to improve further.  He has asked farmers to increase their efforts in agriculture due to this subsidy.

Also, he said that the condition of unsold tea has improved, and efforts have been made to ensure that the current situation is safe.  He said that the difference in farmers' bonuses is due to the problems of industrial efficiency and tea quality, and there are plans to improve the situation.  The government will collaborate with stakeholders to invest in industries that are facing challenges.

Ronoh added that the government continues to look at markets to improve the sale of tea.  He has asked the industrial directors to ensure that they help KTDA in ensuring good leadership and management of tea.  He emphasized that the Tea Board of Kenya ensures that the tea measuring machines are in good condition.
